Two days in New York (by Eric Fischer)
Locations of geotagged tweets near New York on October 29 (blue) and October 30 (white), showing otherwise-active areas that lost power or suffered other damage because of Hurricane Sandy.
Inspired by Foursquare’s visualization of checkins on October 27 and 31.
In the case of Twitter there was a big spike in volume the evening of the 29th as people tweeted about the approaching storm, so the blue is probably more intense than would be seen on other days.
Data from the Twitter streaming API, 12:00 GMT October 29 through 12:00 GMT October 31.
